In this video, I am training a young Labrador Retrieve puppy to come when called. There are a lot of ways to begin training the recall, but I believe these first steps are highly useful in creating a solid foundation for your recall training. When you first start training, you will want to practice in a location that is not too distracting to your dog. Then you can progress to tossing out toys and teaching your dog to come to you while they are playing with the toy. Once your puppy will come to you inside the home, you are ready to move it outside. I like to use a long leash to ensure I can get the dog to come to me if they do not respond initially.
